Meet the Board
Alex has been involved in coaching Youth Football for the last 9 years. Prior to that, he coached at the High School level. He switched to youth level in order to make a greater impact on the game he loves. Known for his fiery and disciplinary approach, this former Marine strives to get the best out of all those with whom he works. He founded the AFA Wolverines to ensure full-contact football was restored to the community of Alameda. His passion is, and has always been, encouraging the growth and development of the kids. He often says, “Not only are we molding good football players, but we are also creating decent people.” He is committed to the youth of our community, and is leading the charge to ensure the Wolverines are here to stay.
Junior has been coaching youth football and other sports for the last 15 years. After a successful football career in the NFL, Junior brings his love of the game and passion for teaching kids the fundamentals of football to the AFA Wolverines. As our General Manager, he is responsible for managing and ensuring the proper training of our coaching staff. Junior works hard to consistently support and encourage our athletes, to make sure they have the best possible experience on the field. Junior is our hometown hero who has done well and continues to give back. He's a husband and father of 4, and resides in Alameda, CA.
Grace is a native Alamedan and a mother of four who has been involved in youth football for many years – ever since her two sons had begun playing at the young age of 5. Grace is passionate about getting youth involved in a heart healthy life, and is a strong advocate and supporter of a family team environment.
Marissa recently joined the AFA Board of Directors as member of the Registration Committee. She is the mother of 6 boys, and is currently majoring in Psychology at the College of Alameda. She loves being a part of the Wolverine family and strongly believes that football has great potential to build character, perseverance, and great life skills for the children as well as her own. Even with a busy life, she always looks foward to football season, hanging out with the kids and volunteering during the games.
Ashley graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a Graphic Communications, B.S., specializing in Print and Digital Communications. She now works at a Montessori Elementary school with children 2-12 years old and mentors through the local Big Brothers Big Sister program. She is known for her passion of the support and development of children in her own community and hopes to offer her technical and communication experience to support AFA and the children of Alameda.
Asalina is currently attending Cal State East Bay, majoring in Biology and is a member of the Tau Sigma National Honor Society. She has a passion for volunteering in her community and is a team player dedicated to ensuring the success of our young people in school and beyond.
Assistant Scholastics Director
Cheryl is a mother of two, and has been working in the corporate financial industry for over 29 years. She enjoys volunteering and is committed to helping young people succeed in life on and off the field. She is especially eager to ensure our youth remain focused in the classroom and is part of AFA in order to give back to the community.
